Purpose

While receiving normal supervision and assistance from the Chief of Field Office, the WASH Officer also reports to the Chief of WASH, who is headquartered in Accra, for WASH technical and programmatic direction. Throughout the WASH programming process, the WASH Officer offers technical, operational, and administrative support. The Officer develops, executes, monitors, and evaluates the WASH output outcomes of the national program. They also manage and carry out a variety of technical and administrative responsibilities linked to these activities.

Major Responsibilities

Planning and developing programs

  • Under the overall technical direction of the Chief WASH, draft updates for WASH in the situation analysis will help to inform the creation of WASH-related outcomes and output outcomes. For the creation, management, monitoring, and evaluation of programs, conduct research, and write reports on WASH trends.
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and relevancy of information while preparing technical reports and program preparation and documentation.
  • By examining the requirements and priorities of the WASH sector, you may help build or construct WASH-related outcomes and output results, as well as associated strategies.
  • In order to support progress toward the WASH-related outcome and/or output results in the country program, provide technical and administrative support throughout all stages of programming processes by carrying out/administering a variety of technical program transactions, creating materials/documents, and adhering to organizational processes and management systems.
  • Prepare the necessary papers and paperwork to speed up the review and approval procedures.

Results delivery, monitoring, and administration of the program

  • Collaborate with coworkers and partners to gather, evaluate, and exchange information on implementation-related difficulties, provide solutions for implementing programs on a regular basis, and notify the proper authorities and stakeholders of the need for higher-level interventions and/or decisions. Keep copies of reports and evaluations for reference purposes and/or to document and preserve lessons learned.
  • With government and other counterparts, take part in monitoring and evaluation exercises, program reviews, and yearly sectoral reviews. Prepare reports on outcomes for necessary action/interventions at the higher level of program management.
  • The use of sectoral program resources (financial, administrative, and other assets) is monitored and reported on, and conformity with authorized allocations, organizational rules, regulations, procedures, donor commitments, and ethical and moral standards is checked. Report on concerns found so that stakeholders and management may address them quickly.
  • For management, funders, and partners, assist in preparing sectoral progress reports.

Support for program execution from a technical and operational perspective

  • Organize field trips and surveys, gather data, and communicate reports to partners and stakeholders. Report urgent problems, bottlenecks, and prospective difficulties to the supervisor for prompt resolution.
  • Assist in the execution of programs by providing technical and operational assistance to government counterparts, NGO partners, UN system partners, and other national office partners and donors on the use and comprehension of UNICEF policies, strategies, procedures, and best practices in WASH.

WASH readiness and response for humanitarian purposes

  • To make sure UNICEF is ready to fulfill its promises for WASH in an emergency, draft requisitions for supplies, services, long-term agreements, and cooperation agreements.
  • Study and completely comprehend UNICEF's emergency response processes.
  • As and when necessary, assume support responsibilities in emergency response and early recovery.

Establishing connections and partnerships

  • Create and maintain good working relationships with other government agencies and national, regional, and district stakeholders through active knowledge- and information-sharing to make program implementation easier and give stakeholders the tools they need to produce WASH output outcomes.
  • Create advocacy communication and information products for WASH programs to raise awareness, develop alliances and partnerships, and assist in WASH fundraising.
  • To integrate and synchronize UNICEF output results and implementation strategies with UNDAF development and planning processes, take part in interagency discussions on UNDAF planning.
  • Prepare resource mobilization materials and briefings and do research on possible contributors in order to raise money and build partnerships.

Knowledge management, innovation, and capacity building

  • Innovative WASH projects like the extension of the District and Basic Sanitation Fund in the Northern Regions should get considerable support from partners.
  • Help create, put into practice, track, and record WASH action research and innovation (technical or systemic).
  • Assist in the creation of learning/knowledge products that encompass cutting-edge techniques and best practices to promote the overall growth of the WASH sector.
  • To guarantee that our sector's capability remains current with new advances, assist in developing and providing learning opportunities for UNICEF WASH personnel.
  • Participate as a resource person in projects to increase the capacity of clients' and stakeholders' stakeholders' competencies.

If you want to be an advocate for every child, you'll need...

  • It is necessary to have an advanced university degree (Master's or above) in one of the technical disciplines listed below: behavior change communication, civil or mechanical engineering, public health, or public health engineering.
